Blog #2: Arriving in Madrid - August 11-12 & 26

Nadia and I arrived in Madrid on August 11. We landed a few hours apart since our points of departure differed; I departed from Tel Aviv and Nadia from Vancouver. It was difficult to find each other at the airport, since each arrived to a different terminal. When we finally met we felt releived

After settling down in our Madrid Hotel Principe Piu, we spent a bit of time exploring the area, even tough we lacked the energy following our long flights. We boarded a City Tour bus, which was expensive (22 EU each!) and our jaws dropped as we admired Madrid adorned wih its exquisite architecture, monumental fountains, plazas, museums, gardens, parks, and quaint neighbourhoods. I was impressed by the orderliness and cleanliness of the city grounds.

We spent a total of three days in Madrid, before and after our Vaughan Town program.  In that time, we did our best to cover important landmarks and certainly enjoyes the beat and spirit of the Spanish capital.

While in Madrid, we were fortunate to get a private tour by Ziva, a new connaissance from Argentina, Israel and now Madrid. Ziva gifted us with a personal and enjoyable three-hour walking tour of Madrid's downtown, which allowed us to savour it more substantially. We were most grateful. The photos below speak for themselves.
